Simple…but true. The healthier you are the better partner, parent, and person you’ll be.

It’s not just YOU that benefits when you take care of you…everyone around you does as well.

Taking care of yourself provides you energy to show up for those around you. When you feel good you make decisions with clarity rather than getting overwhelmed by the stressors of life. This is the heart beat behind The Sisterhood Membership. You are better for others when you first show up and take care of you.

And as we transition into the SUMMER SEASON I think it’s important to take inventory of where we haven’t been feeling our best and take action + ownership of how we can shift that.

TAKE INVENTORY…

So let’s pause a second (one of the best strategies I know)…

And take some inventory of where we’re at in our health. I’m going to give you a couple questions to do a little self reflection on. But to get the most out of this exercise, you’ve got to be HONEST + GENTLE with yourself. Honest in that, it’s not helpful to hide behind what’s not working or excuses you’ve been leaning on. And gentle in that, it’s not serving you to beat yourself up.

This inventory is simply DATA. It can give you CLUES to the next best choices for your life. Every time you go thru these questions it will help you realign your thoughts + focus on your goals in regards to your health. These questions motivate me to be my BEST SELF and empower me to make tough choices if I need to change course. Ready?! Let’s dive in!

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF:

  1. Are my health choices leaving me feeling MORE energized or TIRED + DRAINED?

  2. How would I rate my health on a scale from 1 - 10. 1 being non existent and 10 being amazing. It’s helpful to think in categories here- food + nutrition, rest, hydration, mental wellness, + physical fitness.

  3. If others were following my EXAMPLE in regards to health would I be proud or disappointed?

  4. Am I surrounding myself with other people who inspire me to be my BEST SELF?

  5. What does the BEST VERSION of ME look + feel like in 90 days? A year from now? 5 years? Are my actions leading me CLOSER or FARTHER from this?


5 things I do (most days) to help me feel my best…

Now that you’ve done a little SELF REFLECTION it’s time to take ACTION. The above exercise does nothing if it’s just info. I’m all about making choices to support my best self + feeling my best. The more pebbles we can add into the jar (read: small choices) throughout the month (read: consistently over time) the better chances of our PROGRESS.


Like I’ve said before…our short term decisions DETERMINE our long term life. If I can string together MORE short term wins, I am building a life I can be proud of…one that HONORS my BEST SELF…and one where I FEEL MY BEST. Let’s dig into 5 simple things I do (most days) that help me feel my best.


① MOVE MY BODY.

Find what works for you. It could be a dog walk to kick off the morning. A gentle yoga sequence streamed at home. A spicy spin class. Or you could hit the gym. The point is moving your body is one of the BEST WAYS to take care of it. Not for external looks, but to keep your heart strong, your mind clear, and your body doing what it’s made to do….move.

② FUEL MY BODY TO FEEL MY BEST.

This looks different on the daily…and it’s what I’m super pumped to dive into in this summer’s SISTERHOOD MEMBERSHIP. We’re looking at how foods make us feel. Ditching Diet Culture. Breaking free from body shame. And learning how to take control of our CHOICES in the kitchen. FOOD MATTERS. What you CONSUME matters in terms of how you feel.

Not dieting or depriving or striving for perfection. Simply showing up and making meals that taste amazing, trying new recipes, having a game plan each week in the kitchen, and taking an honest inventory of how you FEEL when you fuel your body with clean foods vs not. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Shame + guilt free.

③ DRINK MY EFFING WATER.

…friendly reminder that you are NOT YOU when you're dehydrated. I swear some days this is easier than others…but with HOT summer days ahead, I keep my focus simple - DRINK. THE. EFFING. WATER.

There's a HUGE difference in my energy levels when I'm hydrated vs when I'm not and it's funny how it works…drinking the water tends to have a POSITIVE RIPPLE EFFECT into other areas of my life, too. Like I end up wanting to move my body more, choose healthier meal options, and put down the bottle of wine.


④ GET OUTSIDE FOR SOME FRESH AIR.

Getting outside is EVERYTHING for my mental health, ya’ll. And I have a sneaking suspicion it will be for you, too. Studies have shown being outdoors lowered levels of cortisol, a hormone that's a marker for stress. Getting a boost of vitamin D. You can improve your health just by soaking up the sun. Vitamin D is essential for bone growth, regulates your immune system, and can help battle depression. Spending as little as 20 minutes a day outside helps to reduce stress.

SIMPLE WAYS TO GET OUTSIDE FOR 20 MIN PER DAY:

☀️Take your lunch break or work calls outside.

☀️Do some yard work…pull weeds, tend to your garden, or pick up your fur baby’s poo poo. 🙈

☀️Plan an outdoor movie night.

☀️Go for a walk with your family, your dog, or invite a neighbor to join you.

☀️Try a guided run using an app like Peloton. The trainers + music help me forget I’m working hard and make it so fun!

⑤ LEVEL UP MY MINDSET.

Your mindset is POWERFUL, friends. It creates your reality, and shapes your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Research shows that mindsets play a significant role in determining your life's outcomes. By becoming aware of the thoughts you’re thinking….deciding if they’re serving you or not, and then shifting your mindset….you can improve your health, decrease your stress and become more resilient to life's challenges. You’ll usually catch me with a book in the morning to get my mind ready to take on the day AND THEN I usually decompress from the day with a walk + a podcast.

Again. These 5 things are what I do MOST days to support my best self. They’re TOOLS, not CHAINS. So I don’t have to check them all off. I just need to be AWARE of what I need on a given day. Doing these 5 things leaves me feeling better than they found me and I think that’s the greatest gift you could give yourself…becoming AWARE of how your actions are leaving you FEELING. I’m drained after I scroll social. I feel defeated by someone else’s highlight reel. I feel blah when I stay inside all day and isolate. I lack energy when I eat take out and sit on the couch for too many days straight. I sleep poorly when I’m not drinking water. My mindset suffers when I leave thoughts on loop that aren’t serving me.

Do you even know how you feel? Have you PAUSED long enough to even see if you’re drained, defeated, blah, or suffering due to your actions? I hope today was so so eye opening. Awareness is EVERYTHING for change.

But the kicker is…it doesn’t stop there. These are REALLY SIMPLE THINGS TO DO, friends. And. They are also really simple NOT to do. That’s why most people won’t take action. They’ll become aware and stop there. But not you…not this time. I have a feeling if you’ve made it this far you’re READY for some action this summer. You’re ready to feel your BEST and GLOW UP from the inside out.

When I hear that women want support with food + in the kitchen, I tend to have a visceral reaction. Bc I don’t want it to be yet another space where you enter feeling “not good enough” and leave feeling like you “missed the mark.”

I want a space where we can do FOOD + GLOWING UP in a different, more sustainable way.

If we were together I’d tell you…

  • Food isn’t meant to make you feel guilty.

  • Meal plans are a tool, not a chain.

  • Diets are damaging and there’s a better way.

  • Your body is GOOD.

  • Healthy looks different on EVERYONE AND I think healthy looks good on YOU.

  • And that shame you were taught when you look in the mirror? I wanna help you see that you’re MORE than a BEFORE pic.

So we’re gonna do it a little different this summer. I’m gonna teach you tools, absolutely. And I’m gonna empower you to break free from some of the diet culture shame that has been holding you back from loving yourself.
